Representing Senate District 5 in Clark County, Joyce Woodhouse is a retired educator, program administrator and a passionate advocate for children and quality education. She was first elected to the Nevada Senate in 2006. In the 2009 session she served as Chair to the Legislative Operations and Elections Committee.
Senator Woodhouse was born in Glendive, Montana in 1944. She attended Carroll College in Helena Montana where she received a B.A. in Elementary Education in 1966. She then attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas where she received a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 1983 and a Master's degree in Educational Administration in 1987.
Senator Woodhouse has always been an advocate for quality education in the state of Nevada. Over the years she has worked in the education field as a teacher, a principal, and a Director of the School-Community Partnership Program in the Clark County School District. She is affiliated with the Nevada State Education Association and the National Education Association. In 2003 she was awarded the Unsung Hero award from the Nevada Public Education Foundation. In that same year she also received the Outstanding Champion Award for Leadership and Commitment to Improving our Community from the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.
