The Nevada Senate Democrats are proud to welcome our newest members, Senators Shirley Breeden, Allison Copening, and David Parks.  All three individuals bring diverse experience and wisdom to Carson City and are excellent additions to the Nevada Senate Democratic Caucus.


Senator Shirley Breeden is a homegrown Nevadan who has lived in Nevada for over 41 years.  This year she retired after over 30 years of service to the Clark County School District where she most recently held the position of Director, Professional Development Education.  Senator Breeden was elected to the Nevada State Senate in November 2008 and represents Senate District Clark 5.  To learn more about Senator Breeden, please click here.

Senator Allison Copening is a third generation Nevadan who has served her community since her high school days at Bonanza High School.  The tradition of helping to build a better Nevada is an inherited family tradition - Her grandfather helped to build Hoover Dam and served in the first volunteer fire brigade in Las Vegas, and her great aunt and uncle opened the first music and jewelry store in Las Vegas in the 1920's.  Allison serves a number of community organizations including the Desert Research Institute Foundation, Child Focus, and the Springs Preserve.  Senator Copening was elected to the Nevada State Senate in November 2008 and represenents Senate District Clark 6.  To learn more about Senator Copening, please click here.

Senator David Parks is a longtime Nevada Public Servant. He was first elected to the Nevada State Assembly in 1996 and served there with distinction until he was elected to the Nevada State Senate in November 2009.  Senator Parks serves a number of community organizations, including the Nevada Homeless Alliance, Aid for AIDS of Nevada, Inc., and the Governor's Statewide AIDS Advisory Task Force.  Senator Parks is chair of the Natural Resources Senate Committee. Revises the date of the primary election

BILL STATUS: April 11, 2009- Pursuant to Joint Standing Rule No. 14.3.1, no further action allowed

This bill changes the date of the primary election from the twelfth Tuesday before the general election in each even-numbered year to the first Tuesday of September in each even-numbered year. To provide an example, if the provisions of this bill had already been in effect in 2008, the primary election would have been held on September 2, 2008, instead of August 12, 2008.
