A special working group will be appointed at the Monday (October 26) meeting of the Legislative Committee to review the report and to make sure that action is being taken in immediate regulatory changes to address the deficiencies. The working group will also look at potential statutory changes that need to be made in the next legislative session.

The report included instances of inadequate inspections, failure of Nevada OSHA investigators to issue citations for hazardous conditions, failure to ensure action was taken to correct hazardous conditions, refusal to impose more serious penalties for willful and repeated violations of workplace safety regulations, and failure to communicate with workers on job sites about hazardous conditions. 

"The federal OSHA report is a clear, conclusive reaffirmation of our contention during the 2009 legislative session that Nevada OSHA has not done its job to protect Nevada workers. Through the Nevada Legislative Commission, we will conduct a thorough review of those findings and the accompanying recommendations to determine what regulatory steps should be taken to ensure that Nevada OSHA is taking action to correct its deficiencies - and adequately protect Nevadans on the job."
