April 27, 2009

nso-grnd4.jpg(Las Vegas) – The Senate Energy, Infrastructure, and Transportation Committee took part today in a Green Energy Tour of Southern Nevada.  Led by Senator Mike Schneider, the tour included visits to the Sempra Energy photovoltaic plant in the El Dorado Valley and Acconia’s Nevada Solar One Project in the El Dorado Valley.  Additionally, the committee toured the Springs Preserve, a conservation learning center, met with the Southern Nevada Regional Transportation Commission, and toured several “green developments” by Pardee Homes.

“There is no reason that Nevada can’t be home to this industry—with our year round sunny days and our entrepreneurial mirrors-row-early-morn.jpgspirit, Nevada should be the nation’s leader in renewable technology—we saw it with our own eyes today.  The facilities we visited today show what the future of Nevada could be should we choose to harness our abundant natural resources,” said Senator Schneider, chair of the Senate Energy, Infrastructure, and Transportation committee.  “I applaud those homebuilders that are working to make our community cleaner and more sustainable. Making small changes in our lives will make a big difference in the future of our state.”

The Senate Energy, Infrastructure, and Transportation Committee has passed several pieces of legislation aimed at encouraging the use and production of renewable technology.  This upcoming Wednesday, the committee will consider an amendment to SB 358, the Initiative for a Green Economy.
